Level 2: Learn to SHARE Kirtan with others!
This six week LEVEL 2 IN PERSON class is perfect for those with a home chant practice who long to SHARE Kirtan with others!
Within a safe space, Mike Cohen, Dawnia Dresser & Michele Heaphy offer a fun program that guides and supports EXPERIENCED Kirtan Leaders as they deepen their chant practice and step into SHARING sacred chant with others in their community with advanced Sanskrit/Bhakti chants.
Weekly classes (90 minutes long) create a perfect structure for chant leaders to deepen harmonium skills, learn to more fully expres their voice, expand their repertoire & develop a stronger sense of rhythm. Along the way students will receive vocal instruction from Dawnia Dresser. In the sixth class students get to play with a professional Kirtan drummer in a safe and supported way.
You will learn to:
* Expand your repetoire with 6 chants and invocations (from your favorite Kirtan artists!) you can chant at home or share with others
* Strengthen your singing with beloved vocal instructor Dawnia Dresser
* Deepen your conceputal understanding around music and Kirtan
* Learn to hold the 3 key conversations for sharing Kirtan publicly with confidence
* Deepen your energetic understanding of mantras and deities
* Have lots of fun learning to share an amazing spiritual practice!
This class will help you develop the confidence and skill to chant at home, and perhaps even gift your community with the blessing of sacred chant.

HARMONIUM
To participate you will need to beg, borrow, steal, rent, own or purchase a GOOD harmonium tuned to A-440. Please bring your harmonium to all classes. Let me know if you need help lining up a good harmonium. We have access to good harmoniums you can rent and take home for the duration of the six week class ($100), and great harmoniums you can purchase (starting at $900). ABOUT MIKE COHEN, MA
Mike Cohen, MA is founder of Kirtan Leader Institute. Since 2010 he has trained and apprenticed thousands of aspiring and emerging Kirtan Leaders across the globe, from total beginners to dozens he has guided to create/release Kirtan albums, play at festivals and tour nationally. A life-long musician with over two decades experience developing & coaching leaders, Mike has created a Kirtan curriculum that supports total newbies in quickly and easily learning to play chants from their favorite Kirtan artists (like Krishna Das and Snatam Kaur) without needing to understand or learn Western or Indian Classical music (Sargam).
Mike has released four critically-acclaimed full length Kirtan albums, the most recent two with Grammy Award-nominated producer Ben Leinbach (Jai Uttal, Krishna Das, Deva Premal). For well over a decade, Mike has toured North America, offering accessible and potent Kirtan events in yoga studios, healing centers and at yoga/chant festivals. ABOUT DAWNIA DRESSER
Boulder, CO based Dawnia Dresser is an Anusara inspired yoga teacher and lifelong vocalist/musician. During her 19 years in Los Angeles, CA Dawnia co-created three albums of original folk-rock music and contributed extensively on albums and movies as a vocalist and voiceover artist. Dawnia is currently working with renowned Kirtan producer Ben Leinbach (Jai Uttal, Deva Premal) to create an EP of soul-infused mantra music. A graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in music and vocal performance, Dawnia serves as faculty in the Boulder, CO based Kirtan Leader Institute. Her warm heart, clear and caring teaching style and beautiful voice have led her to become a beloved member of the Kirtan community in CO and beyond.

CLASS SIZE
Class size will be limited to 20 participants to create a high-touch learning environment. This program runs 6 weeks with a total of 9 hours of instruction in how to lead Kirtan.
